Amazing islands made by James and Liam - they were very resourceful with toilet paper rolls, cardboard, tissue paper and paint to create these beauties! Well done both, very impressive! https://t.co/fCGz6qL4xc

Year 6 today enjoyed a free screening at Cineworld of Al Gore’s ‘an inconvenient sequel’ followed by a live Q&A. A very powerful film which built on their ‘Climate Crusaders’ learning journey perfectly. The children were utterly brilliant and received much deserved praise! 😎 https://t.co/upjvGDSo4q

School Council

Southgate Primary's School Council is the voice of the children at our school.

The role of our School Council is

  • to represent the views of the children;

  • to raise issues with the adults and tell them about any problems;

  • to have a say in decisions about things that affect the children at our school;

  • to play an active part in making our school a better place.

At the beginning of the school year, each class from Year 1 to Year 6 elects a Councillor and a Deputy Councillor to represent the views of the children in their class.  The School Council then meets every half term to discuss issues that are important to the children or to provide pupils' opinions to help our school leadership team make decisions.

Sometimes the children will choose items to be discussed, and sometimes the school leadership team will ask that a matter is taken to the School Council so that they can find out what the children think.  In recent months this has included decisions about how children would like to celebrate Book Week and fundraise for Comic Relief, how we can improve our school website, giving feedback on school grounds, etc.

The agenda and minutes of School Council meetings are shared amongst our whole school community, giving all children, staff, parents and carers the opportunity to see how our School Council works, the decisions they help to make and the impact they have on Southgate Primary as a whole.

We are very proud of our School Council and the important role they play in our school.

We are currently in the process of electing our school Council. Watch this space!
